Patrons & Ambassadors
"Philanthropy is nothing new to the Royal Borough of Kingston upon Thames. So it comes as a surprise to me that Kingston is one of only two boroughs in London that do not have parochial trusts to support charitable activity. With the support of local businesses and residents I believe we can develop the Kingston Legacy Fund, a permanent fund whose income local groups in the Royal Borough will have the opportunity of benefitting from. I am honoured to be one of Love Kingston's Founding Patrons and I am pleased that the Bentall Family have agreed to contribute financially to this unique campaign”. Edward Bentall
The Royal Borough of Kingston upon Thames has always been very kind to me and I feel is important to help and support the neighbourhood that has treated me so well. I was born in Kingston, and years later returned to set up my own business which became successful over 30 years. I became part of the business establishment and was involved in the community through groups such as the Rotary Club. My first strategic civic investment was to fund a community transport project. I was approached by a friend who saw the need for this after previous funding had been cut and I regarded this as an opportunity to make a tangible difference to people’s lives. Love Kingston campaign is an efficient and effective fundraising model that deserves the support from everyone who lives and works in RBK”. Paul Cox
"It gives me immense pleasure to be involved in the Love Kingston campaign. With the recent promotion of Kingston through the Olympics, I think it is absolutely wonderful that we can continue to do something positive in this prestigious Royal Borough in the name of charity and help people from all walks of life. For the Borough of Kingston this is an exciting venture responding to the needs of the community, the outreach work resulting from this project will I’m sure ultimately transform the face of Kingston. As a Councillor and a former Mayor of this prestigious borough I am certain that the impact of this project will be far reaching and leave a deep and lasting impression on all involved through various capacities. Kingston has a unique personality and distinctive identity stretching back many centuries, it is an honour to be a Founding Patron of the Love Kingston campaign and I wish it and all affiliated with this charity insurmountable success." Cllr. Shiraz Mirza
'I'm delighted to support Love Kingston and am honoured to be asked to become a patron. Anyone who wants to help make our community fairer and stronger should get involved.' Edward Davey

SPEECH GIVEN BY EDWARD BENTALL AT THE LAUNCH OF LOVE KINGSTON - OCTOBER 2012
Philanthropy is nothing new to the Royal Borough of Kingston upon Thames. For example, you only have to go a couple of hundred yards from here to see the steadfast sea cadet corps. The land on which it stands was given by my Grandfather when he purchased the vicarage for car parking in the 1930's. Or the friends of Kingston Hospital who raised over one million pounds for a scanner, or the Mayor's Charity which annually raises over £30,000, along with the Kingston Rotary with their Christmas Tree of Goodwill, and I could go on.
I am confident that we together can raise the sum of £500,000 for the Love Kingston campaign. Half going to the five charities you have heard about this evening, and the other half going to set up a permanent Legacy Fund whose income local charities in the Royal Borough will have the opportunity of benefitting from.
Finally I would like to launch the Love Kingston campaign by presenting them with a cheque for £5,000 from the Rowan Bentall Charitable Trust.
